Emma Newman’s Bat Mitzvah Project:
Sharing the Game I Love
I started playing soccer when I was just 2 years old, and it has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started out playing defense, and as I got older, I learned to play different positions. Now I switch between playing goalie and on the field, which has taught me that every position and every player has an important role on a team.
Soccer has given me so much over the years. It has taught me about teamwork, confidence, determination, and being there for my teammates. Most importantly, it has given me the chance to have fun doing something I love.
For my Bat Mitzvah project, I want to help give other kids the opportunity to experience soccer too. Not every child has access to the equipment they need to play. Things like soccer balls, cleats, shin guards, uniforms, and goalie equipment can be expensive, and I don’t think that should stop a kid from being able to play.
I am partnering with The Gift of Soccer Foundation to collect soccer equipment and monetary donations to help provide gear to children who need it.
How You Can Help
You can donate new or gently used soccer equipment, including cleats, soccer balls, shin guards, uniforms, socks, goalie gear, and soccer bags. You can also make a monetary donation to help provide equipment and support the work of The Gift of Soccer Foundation.
Every donation, big or small, can help give another child the chance to get on the field, be part of a team, and discover a love for soccer just like I did.
Thank you for supporting my Bat Mitzvah project and helping me share the game I have loved since I was 2!

Partnering with The Gift of Soccer is a meaningful Mitzvah project because it channels the simple act of giving into real, tangible change. By raising funds, collecting gently used cleats, jerseys, and balls, your community extends the life of loved equipment and opens doors for children who are eager to play but lack resources. This is a hands-on way to practice tikkun olam—inviting friends, and family to share what they have, reduce waste, and uplift others.
Most of all, it reminds us that generosity—whether a single ball or a full bag of gear—can spark joy, build confidence, and create a lasting ripple of kindness.
