Lujyne Shalaby’s Eagle Scout Project:
Helping All Kids Play Soccer
There are two things I am passionate about: soccer and the environment. I’ve always felt privileged to play the sport I love without worrying about safety, access to soccer gear, or a field to play on. Soccer plays a large role in my life– a sport I can rely on to teach me teamwork, determination, discipline, and connection to others through competition. Not only does it physically impact an individual, but temporarily provides a mental recess from life’s worries; however, sports equipment can take a toll on the environment– approximately 85% of sportswear and equipment in North America never reused or recycled, with 7,000 tonnes of gear discarded globally each year, highlighting a massive environmental impact.
That is why as a Life Scout from Troop 2399 working on my Eagle Scout Project, I partnered with the The Gift of Soccer Foundation, a nonprofit organization that empowers underprivileged youth globally through the beautiful game of soccer, while collecting and repurposing gently used soccer equipment– promoting sustainability and reducing waste. Through soccer, they provide children with recreational opportunities, community, and open doors to education and health services.
For my Eagle Scout Project, I want others to experience the same passion and benefits that soccer gives me, while doing something that benefits both the community and the environment. I have collected over 500 pieces of soccer gear from various high schools across the Bay Area and other locations (including a college)! I am still accepting gently used donations– whether they are training aids, soccer balls, jerseys, socks– your contribution makes a difference! Right now, I am preparing for the next phase, which is packing and shipping the gear.
Please donate to help cover the packing and shipping costs! Any amount donated will bring the collected gear one step closer to getting delivered to those in need. Thank you to all those who contributed to help make this project possible!

Gear Collection Drive
Partnering with The Gift of Soccer is a meaningful Eagle Scout project because it turns service into real, measurable impact. By organizing a community gear drive and fundraiser—collecting gently used soccer gear, you extend the life of well-loved equipment while opening opportunities for kids who are eager to play but don’t have the resources. It’s a hands-on way to demonstrate Scout values by planning, leading, and serving your community: bringing people together, reducing waste, and helping others experience the joy and life lessons of the game.
Most of all, it reminds us that generosity—whether a single ball or a full bag of gear—can spark joy, build confidence, and create a lasting ripple of kindness.
